About Me

I'm succumbing to (not so) equal parts self-test experiment and peer pressure and starting this blog to share my love - and way - of cooking. Two things I must admit up front: 1) It's rare that I measure ingredients and 2) I'm self-taught. I can't do anything about the latter, but I promise to try and do better on the former (at least for posting purposes).

I've never met anyone who didn't like to eat, but the world is full of people who "hate to cook." I'm convinced this is largely due to a restrictive mentality. Recipes are great, but should be used as suggestive guideposts, particularly when it comes to ingredients. Don't lock yourself in to ingredients someone else used, and don't lose out on an delectable food experience because you see artichoke hearts, cringe, and flip quickly to the next recipe. Play with your food. Add and ignore ingredients to suit your tastes. If it sucks, don't do it that way next time.

I cook several nights a week for two, and a few times a month when my best friends host a dinner party. And, by host, I mean they supply the wine and table and I do all the cooking. (Some friends!) It is those nights from which most of my posts will be inspired.

As you're sure to quickly notice, I don't eat beef, pork or chicken. I'll feature vegetable and seafood-focused meals, spotlighting local, seasonal ingredients. But remember the rule: add ingredients to suit your tastes. I may judge you for eating chicken, but I won't hate you for it.

So, come on. Bite this.
